Is TimberTech the same as AZEK? And how does TimberTech compare to Trex?
They’re related — AZEK is TimberTech’s premium PVC line, and TimberTech also makes capped composite lines, so we help you pick the right tier for budget and look. Versus Trex, both are excellent premium boards; they differ in cap technology, color palettes and warranty details. We’ll show samples of each in your own light. Upkeep is minimal — periodic soap-and-water, no staining or sealing.
Is composite decking worth it in Southern California?
For most LA-area homeowners, yes. Composite resists the UV fading, moisture and insects that punish wood here, and it needs no sanding, staining or sealing — just occasional cleaning. The upfront cost is higher than wood, but lower maintenance and a long warranty usually make it the better value over the life of the deck.
Does composite decking get too hot in the sun?
Composite does warm up in direct LA sun like any decking, but lighter colors and modern capped boards stay noticeably cooler than older products. We can recommend colors and shade options — like a pergola or patio cover — so the deck stays comfortable through summer.
Is TimberTech available fire-rated for hillside fire zones?
Certain Trex and TimberTech lines — and PVC options — are listed for wildfire-zone use, but not every product qualifies, so the specific board matters. For a deck in a designated fire zone we specify a compliant, ignition-resistant product and build to current WUI code.
