AZEK is 100% capped PVC — no wood fibers at all — which makes it exceptionally resistant to moisture, stains and mold, and a strong choice for pool decks and coastal homes. Several AZEK lines also use heat-reducing technology that keeps the surface cooler than comparable boards, and it’s backed by a limited lifetime warranty on many lines.
Is composite decking worth it in Southern California?
For most LA-area homeowners, yes. Composite resists the UV fading, moisture and insects that punish wood here, and it needs no sanding, staining or sealing — just occasional cleaning. The upfront cost is higher than wood, but lower maintenance and a long warranty usually make it the better value over the life of the deck.
Is AZEK available fire-rated for hillside fire zones?
Certain Trex and TimberTech lines — and PVC options — are listed for wildfire-zone use, but not every product qualifies, so the specific board matters. For a deck in a designated fire zone we specify a compliant, ignition-resistant product and build to current WUI code.
