Timbertech Decking in LA
Timbertech was founded in 1997 and quickly became one of the best-known makers of composite decking. In 2012, Azek, another manufacturer familiar to deck builders, acquired Timbertech. The Azek line is now known as Timbertek Azek. The former Timbertech decking product lines are Timbertech Pro and Timbertech Edge.
GREEN NEW DECK
When clients talk about environmental concerns and upkeep, deck builders present the composite materials option. Some clients are skeptical from the get-go. Composites, after all, are man-made. Isn’t hardwood more, well, natural? More green?
Yes, trees are natural. Timbertek, though, makes a strong case for composites being greener. These materials contain recycled wood as well as plastics. No trees are cut down to makeTimbertech decking. In contrast, a typical wood deck uses the wood of about 1.25 trees. Thus, Timbertech decks save about 100,000 trees per year.
The Timbertech production cycle also uses less energy than lumbering. Harvesting, moving, and cutting timber burns a lot of fuel. The Timbertech process, on the other hand, reclaims waste and turns it into high-quality deck materials. The company distributes by fuel-efficient rail transport.
These composite materials are strong and durable. They don’t warp, crack, splinter, or rot. Timbertech warranties reflect this. These range from 25 to 50 years, depending on the grade of material. Wood decking, in contrast, has an average life of about 10 years. Moreover, those 10 years will see at least one round of sanding, restaining/painting, and sealing. Routine care for a composite deck is just an annual scrubbing. Wood deck upkeep involves harsh chemicals. Scrubbing Timbertech decking does not. Thus, the upkeep of composite keeps pollutants out of the environment.
Why, some clients then ask, would anybody ever choose wood? Expense certainly influences clients’ thinking. With any two specific composite and wood options, the amounts and timing of outlays will differ These factors are decisive for many people. This is another area in which we provide the expertise for informed client choices. Money aside, there’s another factor. It’s the bottom line for some folks. It isn’t something an accountant or a contractor can address. It’s more a matter of the heart.
For some people, only natural wood will do. Composites have their advantages, yes. They even look like wood, with simulated grain and natural shades. Timbertech decking is visually stunning. That’s why we’re Certified Timbertech and Azek Installers, after all.
But it’s not wood. That, of course, is why we work with wood, too.
